Step 2: Finding out When and Where to Vote

Polling place: Where people vote, not to be confused with the bar down the street that also has poles.

Time to meet your local election officials!/
Google (the name of your county) + (elections) and it should take you to your local election info.

Most county sites allow you to

  • verify your voter registration
  • check the election calendar
  • provide a sample ballot (for practice)
  • have maps to your polling place
    Early voting.
Early voting is AWESOME because you can be sure to get it done, usually with no waiting.

  • Early voting starts about two weeks before an election and ends a few days before election day.
  • Early polling locations may be different than the ones for election day.
  • Check with your local election officials for early voting details in your community.
    Election Day
If you are more traditional and want to wait for Election Day just be sure you have plenty of time, and the weather-car-dog-flu doesn't keep you from the polls.

  • Local media and election officials will post election dates, times, and polling places in the newspaper. Be sure you have the right polling place!
  • As long as you are in line to vote when the polls officially close, they have to let you vote. Even if that line wraps around the block.

Now you know when and where to go!
